Dr Nazish Jabeen

Dr Nazish Jabeen, earned her doctorate from the School of Life Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, worked in Prof. Dr. Shi Qinghua’s lab. She has worked as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine on a project entitled “Capacity Building for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to Study Antimicrobial Resistant”.

During her postdoc she did the whole genome sequencing of pathogens like Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, Salmonella Typhi, and Klebsiella Pneumonia by using Illumina library preparation kit and sequencing on MiSeq platform. Additionally, she was part of the team who ran the first TruSight Tumor 15 assay for sequencing here at Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi, Pakistan. TruSight Tumor 15 uses next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology to provide a comprehensive assessment of 15 genes that are commonly mutated in solid tumors.

Furthermore, she worked on two projects for her PhD dissertation. First, exploring functions of genes involved in gametogenesis and second was to use whole-exome sequencing (WES) followed by the Sanger sequencing to investigate the molecular basis of infertility in consanguineous infertile families, and functional analysis in mouse models. Furthermore, her MPhil research was on the epidemiological/ statistical studies of hereditary malformations and their association with consanguinity by using different genetic and statistical tools. She did her master in Animal Sciences and MPhil in Human Genetics from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. She received Chancellor Gold Medal for scoring First rank in MPhil, at Department of Animal Sciences, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

Her research interest is to explore novel genes responsible for genetic disorders and their genetic etiologies. She has always had a strong interest in biostatistics since her undergraduate studies. Also, she has epidemiological research background that is a great help in doing research in human complex disorders. She has published her research work in multiple international journals like Science Bulletin, Genetics in Medicine, Scientific Reports, Development, and Genes (Basel).
